IN PROGRESS
A Shared Vision for the UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Association for the Heritage of the Vineyard Landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato is pleased to make available the new Management Plan 2025–2031, the strategic document that will guide the protection, conservation, enhancement and management of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato throughout the next planning cycle.

The Management Plan serves as the principal framework for the governance of the World Heritage property and establishes a shared vision for its future development, in line with the principles of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and the conservation objectives related to the Outstanding Universal Value that justified the site's inscription on the World Heritage List.

A Participatory and Multidisciplinary Process

The updated Management Plan is the result of an extensive process of dialogue and collaboration involving local authorities, institutions, management bodies, economic stakeholders, associations and local communities.

Through an analysis of ongoing transformations and the main challenges affecting the vineyard landscape, the document identifies priorities, objectives and lines of action aimed at integrating heritage conservation with the sustainable development needs of local communities.

The Five Strategic Objectives and the 2025–2031 Action Plan

The Management Plan 2025–2031 is structured around five Strategic Objectives that represent the key priorities for the protection, enhancement and sustainable management of the UNESCO site. These objectives define the long-term vision for the territory and provide the framework for implementing policies and initiatives promoted by the Association and its partners.

The objective of Conservation, expressed through the theme A Harmonious Landscape (Where to Design), seeks to strengthen integrated multi-level planning across the territory, promoting tools and policies capable of preserving the cultural landscape and its Outstanding Universal Value.

The objective of Credibility, reflected in the theme An Efficient Landscape (Where to Manage), aims to consolidate a shared and responsible governance system by fostering cooperation among institutions, local authorities, communities and stakeholders involved in the management of the site.

The objective of Capacity Building, developed through An Understood Landscape (Where to Learn), promotes knowledge dissemination, research and education, enhancing skills and awareness in support of heritage protection and enhancement.

The objective of Communication, expressed through the theme A Welcoming Landscape (Where to Visit), seeks to make the heritage increasingly accessible, understandable and enjoyable, fostering effective communication and the sustainable promotion of the UNESCO site.

Finally, the objective of Communities, represented by A Living Landscape (Where to Live), recognizes the central role of the people who inhabit the territory, promoting the landscape as a shared asset while strengthening a sense of belonging, quality of life and active community participation.

To translate these strategic directions into concrete actions, the Plan is supported by an Action Plan that identifies projects, operational tools, responsible stakeholders, timelines, monitoring indicators and expected outcomes. The Action Plan constitutes the dynamic component of the management system, enabling the planning of interventions, the periodic assessment of achievements and the adaptation of strategies to evolving environmental, social and economic conditions.

Together, the five Strategic Objectives and their related actions contribute to the conservation of the site's Outstanding Universal Value, strengthening the territory's capacity to address contemporary challenges and promote sustainable development based on landscape quality, wine culture and community participation.
