Grinzane Cavour Castle is located in Piedmont's Langhe region, a few kilometres from Alba and near Diano d'Alba. The castle is easily accessible by car via the SP3 or SP12 roads, and there is parking available nearby. The castle is clearly signposted and is surrounded by a hilly landscape rich in vineyards.
This castle is one of the area's most important symbols, not only because of its beauty and medieval significance, but also because of the role it played in the development of Piedmontese viticulture. Dating back to the 14th century, it is identifiable by its central square tower and the architectural elements that have been added over time.
In the 19th century, the castle became the centre of the first modern winemaking experiments, thanks to Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour. It was here that he started to promote the high quality of red wines from the Langhe, including the renowned Barolo.
Today, the castle is home to the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese "Cavour", one of Piedmont's most important wine shops. Visitors can taste and purchase a wide selection of local wines here, including Barolo, Nebbiolo and Cavour sparkling wine. The wine shop is the perfect place to discover the local wine production.
The castle is also home to an ethnographic museum dedicated to rural culture and the winemaking tradition of the Langhe. At the foot of the hill, there is an experimental vineyard containing one of the most comprehensive collections of vines in Europe. This area, known as "the garden of knowledge", is an educational space where the indigenous varieties of the area are studied and preserved.
A refined restaurant on the first floor of the castle welcomes guests with a surprise menu created by the chef to amaze and delight every palate while respecting personal tastes. This is a unique culinary experience, where each dish elegantly and passionately tells the story of the territory.
