The Banca d'Alba Foundation, with the patronage of the Fabbrica di San Pietro in the Vatican and the Diocese of Alba, presents to the public the precious cast of Michelangelo's Pietà Vaticana, on display at Palazzo Banca d'Alba.
The great artist created the famous sculpture in 1498, at the age of just 23, working for a whole year on a single block of marble.
The cast was made by Francesco Mercatali in 1942, during World War II, and proved to be fundamental in the restoration of the original work after the dramatic attack in 1972
