The series of meetings on Italian history and cinema begins

The series of events entitled "The History of Italy at the Cinema" will begin on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 9:00 PM, at the "Giovanni Canna" Civic Library in Casale Monferrato. The initiative, curated by Simone Spoladori, consists of a series of four meetings that will offer participants the opportunity to discover a new perspective on the cinema that has influenced Italian history from antiquity to the present day. In each meeting, as usual, the most significant elements from sequences of major films will be presented and discussed. The first meeting will focus on Antiquity and the Middle Ages, two eras that cinema has often transformed into extraordinary spaces for narrating and reinterpreting the past. On the one hand, archaic and imperial Rome, brought to life on the big screen through the stories of leaders, emperors, wars, and political and social transformations; On the other, the Middle Ages, told through castles, knights, conflicts, and legendary figures, but also used by cinema as a place of allegory and cultural reinvention, capable of reflecting contemporary values, fears, and questions. "The History of Italy at the Cinema" aims to be an engaging and enlightening experience for all film enthusiasts and those wishing to delve deeper into the seventh art; subsequent events will be held on September 24th, October 1st, and October 7th, each at 9:00 PM. Simone Spoladori is a teacher, film critic, and author for film, radio (his "Destini incrociati" on Radio24), television, and theater. He has published: "Tim Burton.
