The Casale Monferrato Synagogue was built in 1595 in the center of the old ghetto and renovated during the second half of the 19th century. The two floors of the women's galleries house the Museum of Jewish Art and History, while the evocative basement room, once home to the old unleavened bread oven, is now dedicated to the Museum of Enlightenment. The topic will be "War and Peace Along the Streets of Yitzhak Rabin," presented by its author, Adam Smulevich. At least two exhibitions await us before the summer in the Sala Carmi. On April 19th, at 3 pm, "A People's Miracle" by Nazario Melchionda will be presented. This digital art exhibition, produced by the Evangelicals of Italy for Israel Association, retraces the "historic miracles" that have accompanied the survival and rebirth of the Jewish people over the centuries. Andie Hortai Basana, President of the Association, will also be present at the opening. On May 17th at 11 am, the now traditional comics event, linked to Casale Comics & Games, will open. This year, the paintings of a great composer with ties to the Jewish world will be on display again (until June 14). Music returns on Sunday, May 31st with the first event of the "Music in the Jewish Complex" series. Now in its 14th season and directed by composer Giulio Castagnoli, it features a series of monthly concerts dedicated to music and composers connected to the Jewish community. But beware: this year's musical offerings will also include jazz for the Music Festival, on Sunday, June 21st, in collaboration with the Monfrà Jazz Fest. Another packed event awaits the synagogue, museums, and the entire complex on September 6th. It's the European Day of Jewish Culture, which this year has the theme of love. It's a perfect opportunity to display the Ketuboth, or marriage contracts, kept in the Community Archives, as well as a precious wedding dress, and then there's more music and themed events. All of this brings us to December, a month that in Casale focuses on the holiday of Chanukah and a celebration that has characterized this place for 30 years, both in the fields of art and spirituality. All this without forgetting that the program will also feature interesting collaborations that will bring the Casale name to various cultural venues in Italy.
