July 26 - October 26, 2026 · Cassine

Sunday, July 26th at 5.30 pm at the Museum of Sacred Art of San Francesco "Paola Benzo Dapino" located in the former convent complex annexed to the church of San Francesco, the Municipal Administration of Cassine thanks to the availability of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Piedmont, the collaboration with the Civic Library "Ettore Amerio", "the IRSAC Institute for the Historical Reconstruction of Arts and Costumes APS" of Cassine and the "Club for UNESCO of Alessandria", on the occasion of the eighth centenary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, as part of the initiatives aimed at enhancing the Franciscan testimonies present in the country, will present the original manuscript of the "Chorographica descriptio Provinciarum et Conventuum omnium Ordinis Minorum S. Francisci Capucinorum secundum veram illorum distantiam servata quantum fieri potuit Climatum constitutione" a geographical atlas of the Capuchin Provinces created by the Friar Capuchin Giovan Battista da Cassine, an 18th-century cartographer, printed in Milan in 1712. This precious document will be on display until October 26th, on Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (or by reservation for other dates) as part of the Museum tour. It will allow the public to learn, in addition to the valuable architectural and artistic works attributable to the presence of the Franciscan Friars in Cassine, about the figure and work of one of the most famous religious figures, either native to or residing in the Monferrato town, who developed their spiritual life by accepting the rule of the Order founded by Saint Francis or who were inspired by it. Copies from the Historical Archives, on display for this purpose, will provide details of the history of the convent complex of San Francesco di Cassine.
