"Reborn from Above in Adult Life" Nicodemus' Encounter with Jesus, a theatrical play

"How can a man be born when he is old?" This is the question Nicodemus asks himself, a question that appears in the narrative of the Gospel of John (3/1-21). It is around this question that the play "Reborn from Above in Adult Life" unfolds, presenting the figure of Nicodemus by highlighting a mixture of feelings arising from his encounter with Jesus. What John recounts in his Gospel, and which the play develops as a common thread throughout the story, invites us to delve deeper and explore whether we are truly interested in understanding how one can be born when old—in essence, how an adult can change with a lifetime of habits, beliefs, and experiences behind him. How often do these thoughts challenge us in the depths of our souls as believers, but perhaps also in those who are not believers but have always sought the absolute, the ultimate destiny of humanity? The text was written by Giorgio Milani, and the original music and songs were composed by Sergio Paolo Demartini. The play features Giorgio Milani as Nicodemus, the Anima Mundi Ensemble, and musicians: Antonio Sacco: violin, Davide Andreone: flute, Luca Cecchini: trombone, Paolo Cantamessa: tuba, Sergio Paolo Demartini: trumpet, and Massimiliano Limonetti: clarinet and musical direction. The costume for Nicodemus was designed by Giovanna Vadalà, assistant Marco Marinone, and artistic collaboration with Giovanni Ganora. This cultural initiative was organized in collaboration with the Diocesan Cultural Heritage Office and is sponsored by the Municipality. The performance will take place on Saturday, March 28th at 9:15 PM in the Church of Sant'Antonio in Casale Monferrato. It will be an engaging moment of insight, reflection, and spirituality, with the blessing and final distribution of the "little crosses of Nicodemus" (free will).
