Conference and exhibition of the manuscript Atlas of the Capuchin Provinces, 18th century

At 4:00 PM in Cassine (AL) at the Church of San Francesco, organized by the IRSAC Institute for the Historical Reconstruction of Arts and Costumes APS of Cassine and the Davide Lajolo Cultural Association of Vinchio (AT), with the patronage of the Municipality of Cassine and the collaboration of the UNESCO Club of Alessandria. The event will also feature the exhibition of the original manuscript of the "Chorographica descriptio Provinciarum et Conventuum omnium Ordinis Minorum S. Francisci Capucinorum secundum veram illorum distantiam servata quantum fieri potuit Climatum constitutione," a geographical atlas of the Capuchin Provinces created by the Capuchin Friar Giovanni Battista da Cassine, printed in Milan in 1712. The conference "Semper in melius mutari potest" will take place. Giovanni Battista da Cassine: Preacher and Scientist (17th-18th Century). The initiative aims to Highlighting the figures of two Franciscan friars from the villages of Cassine and Vinchio, who in the 18th century proved to be distinguished intellectuals and cartographers, becoming experts in cartographic techniques and renowned globe makers and decorators. The work of these two friars will be the subject of presentations by Prof. Ezio Claudio Pia (Crism, Turin - Ciham, Lyon) "Comuni utilitati in lucem prodita". The precious manuscript by Capuchin Friar Giovanni Battista da Cassine, thanks to the support of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Piedmont, will remain on display until October 26. It can be viewed during the Museum's tour on Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (or by reservation for other dates). This initiative, marking the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, aims to contribute to the local appreciation of the spiritual, cultural, and social legacy of the saint's work, which is manifested in his faith, but also in art, literature, and the modern concept of ecology and brotherhood. This concept has also been recognized by the UNESCO General Conference with the inclusion of the saint's celebrations in the "UNESCO Anniversaries 2026-2027" program.
