Verdi di Camnago 2023 Piazza Lenti (photo by Carla Moro and Aurelio Dessi) CAMAGNA - The Sut la Cupola Festival returns for its seventh edition, the cultural event that has enlivened the village of Camagna Monferrato since 2020 with a rich calendar of events dedicated to music, theater, and the promotion of the local artistic heritage. The 2026 edition focuses on the town's iconic monument: the Church of Sant'Eusebio and its majestic dome, a true architectural jewel and a FAI Place of the Heart, which will provide a picturesque backdrop to the scheduled events. The Festival kicked off in March with a concert by the Anima Mundi ensemble, dedicated to the figure of Nicodemus. The series will now kick off with four new events: two in September and two in October. Singing, music, and prose will take center stage, blending performance and cultural heritage. Two of the four performances will focus on the sacred, offering audiences the opportunity to experience the extraordinary atmosphere of the Monumental Church. The Sut la Cupola Festival is organized by the Pro Loco association, with artistic direction by Elisa Cipriani. The initiative is supported by the Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria Foundation and under the patronage of the Municipality of Camagna Monferrato, the Province of Alessandria, the Piedmont Regional Council, the Association for the Heritage of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato UNESCO Vineyard Landscapes, the Alessandria-Asti Chamber of Commerce, and Unpli Piemonte. The organizers thank the many local organizations that continue to support the Festival, contributing with their commitment and trust to the growth of an event that, year after year, confirms itself as an important benchmark for the cultural promotion of Monferrato. These are the events: Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 9:00 pm, concert by the Corpo Musicale G. Verdi of Camnago (Monza Brianza) conducted by the principal trumpet of the Orchestra della Fondazione Arena di Verona, Maestro Angelo Pinciroli. In 2023, this musical ensemble was invited to Camagna in Piazza Lenti to pay homage to Pietro, Elisa's grandfather. This year, they return to the church to perform a concert that will range from opera to the famous soundtracks of Ennio Morricone, more appropriate for a sacred space. Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 6:30 pm, "Woman, Virgin and Mother. Stabat Mater" by the Connubio Formation. An event combining song, music, and literature. Pergolesi's famous Stabat Mater and the poems of Alda Merini will create a captivating and deeply spiritual atmosphere through sound and images. It will be a profound reflection on a destiny of love and pain, loss and salvation. The event will feature soprano Silvia Capra and mezzo-soprano Sabina Meani, both members of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino choir, pianist and concert pianist Laura Farabollini, and Professor Davide Ferreri as literary curator. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 6:30 pm, a performance of the play: "Francis: Man of God and the Power of Change" - his life, his words, and his example. On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Ensemble Anima Mundi will perform this play. The text of the piece was written by Giorgio Milani and will recount the salient events of the Saint's life, along with a comprehensive presentation of his most significant writings. The laude, the most important forms of sacred song in the vernacular known in Italy in the late Middle Ages, will be interspersed with the spoken parts. These laude originated in a context of popular devotion during Francis's time, and the most famous laude were collected in the Laudario of Cortona. The Anima Mundi Ensemble, made up of voices and instruments dating back to the 13th century, such as the viella, bombarda, symphonia, and cornamusa, will perform pieces such as "Dami Conforto," "Altissima Luce," and "Sia Laudato San Francesco." A world premiere will be performed of a version of the "Canticle of the Creatures" by musician and composer Sergio Paolo Demartini; a way of interpreting an 800-year-old poetic text with contemporary compositional tastes and musical experiences.
