"Attilio. Il Castello dei bambini"

On Saturday, February 7, 2026, the exhibition "Attilio. The Children's Castle" opened in the Marescalchi Hall of the Castello del Monferrato. This exhibition, dedicated to Attilio Cassinelli, known professionally as Attilio, is the centerpiece of a project curated by Alessandra Cassinelli. The exhibition will open the doors to the poetic, essential, and timeless world of one of the illustrators who, starting in the 1960s, profoundly revamped the visual language of children's publishing. A project designed primarily for children, but open to visitors of all ages, conveying the relevance and expressive power of Attilio's work even today. The exhibition will transform the Marescalchi Hall into a series of thematic spaces populated by Kings, Queens, Princes, and Princesses, depicted as silhouettes, who will accompany visitors on a journey through the central themes of his poetics, such as ecology, tree care, and concern for the land and water. On the walls, large prints and panels made with eco-friendly inks will present a wide selection of images from Lapis Edizioni's celebrated Minifairytales and Ministories, along with a few surprises. The exhibition will culminate with Pinocchio, an iconic character who long accompanied Attilio on his creative journey and who takes on a special significance in the year of the bicentenary of Carlo Collodi's birth. The exhibition will be completed by a sea of books immersed in a forest of cubes and a large screen that will encompass the artist's entire universe, conveying the narrative power of his work through a living and immersive archive. Workshops, readings, and meetings for children, families, teachers, and illustration enthusiasts will also be held, offering a playful and participatory opportunity to explore the artist's artistic language. The exhibition will be open to the public, with free admission, until May 10, 2026, during Castello del Monferrato's opening hours: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and by reservation during the week. The exhibition will be accompanied by workshops, readings, and meetings aimed at children, families, teachers, and illustration enthusiasts. Attached is a link to upcoming collateral events.
