On the occasion of the traditional "Homage to Morbelli" Extemporaneous Painting Competition, organized by the Amis d'la Curma Association, the studio of painter Angelo Morbelli—one of the leading exponents of Italian Divisionism—will be open to the public free of charge on Saturday, July 18th. The historic garden of Villa Maria, his summer residence, and the Morbelli Garden will be open to the public free of charge. Born in Alessandria in 1853, he moved to Milan to attend the local Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His connection with the Monferrato region remained a constant in Angelo Morbelli's life. Indeed, the painter often spent extended periods of time, especially during the summer months, at Villa Maria, his family home in Colma di Rosignano Monferrato. Thanks to the restoration and enhancement projects carried out (as part of the "Rosignano Accoglie: Knowledge and Flavors in Monferrato" project, part of the PNRR's "Borghi" call), the Studio, Garden, and Vegetable Garden have returned to the original perspectives, colors, and spaces once enjoyed by Morbelli and his friends—artists such as Bistolfi, Segantini, Pellizza, and Longoni. On Saturday, July 18th, the Painter's Studio-Atelier—a unique and unparalleled space—the historic Garden—the focus of numerous paintings by the artist—and the Vegetable Garden—just as it was designed and maintained by Morbelli himself—will be open to visitors free of charge. Tours are scheduled from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Reservations are not required. For information, please contact the Rosignano Monferrato Tourist Info Point at +39 377 169 3394. In case of inclement weather, tours will be held on Sunday, July 19th (as will the painting competition). Tourists also have the opportunity to independently continue their visit to the places where painter Angelo Morbelli once lived by following the Morbellian Trail, which winds through the streets of Colma (and surrounding areas) and the town itself. It comprises about twenty stops featuring panels reproducing some of the artist's works, immortalizing the places and landscapes of Monferrato that he so loved. Thanks to the Extemporanea, the Trail is enriched by the presence of the painters participating in the competition, engaged in the creation of their own paintings. Projects to enhance the figure of Angelo Morbelli continue. In fact, the Municipality of Rosignano Monferrato and the Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria Foundation are currently cataloging the extensive Morbellian Library located in the painter's studio. This work will also prepare the library for use by scholars, art critics, and universities. ph. Municipality of Rosignano Monferrato
