“A History to be traversed… on the move!”

June 4, 2026 · Casale Monferrato

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 9:00 PM, the "G. Canna" Civic Library in Casale Monferrato will host "A History to Cross... on the Road!", a guided historical walk with live musical performances, as part of the 18th season of KALENDAMAYA 2026 – International Festival of Early Culture and Music. Following the series of conferences held last year at the Civic Library as part of the "A History to Cross" series, the initiative offers a traveling tour of some of Casale Monferrato's iconic locations. The aim is to combine historical narration, the valorization of artistic and musical heritage, and the dissemination of medieval traditions through an immersive and participatory approach. The project is part of the KALENDAMAYA festival, promoted by the "Gli Invaghiti ETS" association, an organization committed to the promotion of early music and historical-musical research, with a particular focus on historical instruments and the philological reconstruction of performance practices. The historical-narrative walk will be led by Antonella Perin, who will accompany the audience through a tale of medieval Casale with performances and itinerant musical performances. The route will include some of the city's most iconic sites, including the Monferrato Castle, the Cathedral of Sant'Evasio, and the "G. Canna" Civic Library. A distinctive feature of the initiative will be its musical performance: the pieces will be performed directly at the locations along the walk, transforming the urban space into a veritable open-air stage where history, architecture, and music engage in a continuous dialogue. The musical component will be provided by the "Gli Invaghiti ETS" ensemble, a vocal and instrumental group specializing in performances on ancient instruments and historical performance practices. The program will feature a repertoire consistent with the medieval context and the historical research underlying the project. The ensemble will consist of Luisa Anna Besenval (gaita and flutes), Teresa Nesci (soprano), Ivana Negro (soprano), Fabio Furnari (tenor and artistic director), Ugo Nastrucci (oud and medieval lute), Massimo Sartori (vielle, flutes, symphonia), and Pietro Ponzone (percussion), playing instruments from the medieval and Renaissance musical heritage. Admission is free. For more information, please contact the Civic Library at 0142.444246 and 0142.444297, or by email at bibliote@comune.casale-monferrato.al.it
